Problems I encountered on Phase 2 and how I handled them.

  • Did 20 injections of 125IU & 22 injections of 200IU. Total of 42 injections. Why? Was having problems with hunger so I became concerned the HCG was losing it’s potency and that I wasn’t taking a large enough dose, decided to up the dose when I mixed up a new batch. Wanted to hit my goal before I ended Phase 2 so I did extra injections to get there.
  • Ordered the 5000 IU vial for my first round. Would not do this again as I was concerned it had loss it’s potency before I was finished with it and ended up throwing lots of it away when I mixed up a new batch. Don’t think it had as the problems of hunger continued on the new batch. Everything I’ve read states the 5000 IU vial will maintain it’s potency for the whole round.
  • Constipation – I know KT touched on this subject in his book and stated that it was OK to go several days without a bowel movement…..but that was a little hard for me to accept……..especially after “the several days without one” and how bloated and uncomfortable I felt. So I would take 1 tbsp of powdered Metamucil daily in the morning for breakfast (this worked well as it filled me up and you didn’t break your fast until midday or later) and I would also drink a Laxative tea at bedtime (from the health food store)
  • Nauseated – This only happened in the first couple of days and left on it’s own around noon. Didn’t do anything for it and it just resolved itself.
  • Hunger at beginning of phase 2- This was a problem (off and on) for me during the whole of round 1 phase 2. At the beginning I was looking for something to eat and felt restless. –Could be I didn’t load enough on the right kinds of food. –Could be I was dealing with old habits of munching all the time. I drank huge amounts of water and some days I separated my daily dose of Metamucil into smaller doses and that worked to fill my stomach. I also upped my HCG dose from 125 IU to 200 IU after 18 VLCD to see if it would make a difference. Seemed to help.
  • Hunger late in phase 2 — I became hungry again during the last two weeks of phase 2 and could not figure out why. I did a lot of reading on other blogs and discovered that exercise would make you hungry because it would burn off the 500 calories you were eating first and leave you wanting more. I continued with my exercise because it was keeping my Blood Pressure within normal ranges and I used the trick of splitting my dose of Metamucil into smaller doses to fill me up during the day. Could also becoming immune to the HCG as I didn’t take a break day. Next round I’m going to take a break day to prolong the effectiveness of the HCG. Also noticed that when I stopped eating fruit I was no longer hunger. (I would usually eat an apple if I was starving)
  • Had many days with no loss or a gain –Not really sure why this happened as I have an all or nothing kind of personality and I wasn’t cheating. It seemed for most of phase 2 I would only lose weight every other day, with a small gain in between. Dr. Simeons explains why you can gain and stall, in Pounds & Inches. In my case I was also gaining muscle due to daily exercise, which was really noticeable in the reshaping process. So when I didn’t lose pounds, I was losing inches. I did do an apple day to see if it would make a difference….not really…..late in the phase two, I decided to play with my eating……couple of days I would increase my protein………didn’t help ……..gained as usual……next I tried to eliminate my fruit………BINGO…………that worked for me. I’ve had big losses again as soon as I eliminated fruit from my diet. I have never been a big fruit eater and I’m assuming that fruit has to much natural sugar for my system. (I only discovered this during the last few days of phase 2, but I will definitely remember it for the next round)
  • Supplements –I continued to take my usual supplements during the whole diet. (Multi-vitamin, calcium, magnesium,Q10, baby aspirin) The only thing I eliminated was the O-mega 3 oils for obvious reasons.
  • Was concerned that I was not losing ONE POUND a day –I was becoming very frustrated with the stall and gain days and also becoming discouraged. Read lots of blogs and realized that continuing to lose a pound a day is unrealistic and although everyone was having excellent results on this program….they were all having individual results…….with hardly anyone maintaining the one pound a day loss. The average over the whole of phase 2 is anywhere from 22 to 37 pounds. Most fall in the middle of those numbers for their 40 injections. Have looked at my overall results and stopped focusing on the daily bumps.
